The Failed Extinction Trilogy
Failed Extinction is a multi-POV, sci-fi / fantasy series that follows multiple characters through war after a political coup. This series will explore in depth bonds, trauma, and moments of doing the wrong thing even if it feels like for the right reason.
Kyle Voss was inspired to write this by reading in depth stories of the underdog, paired with a childhood love of Star Wars. He felt a book like this didn’t exist in current literature, which is why many reviewers have described Failed Extinction: Death of a System as “totally unique.”
The first book in the trilogy was released March 13th, 2026. The following books are expected to have March release dates in 2027 and 2028.

Glossary
As of the start of year 451 of the alliance…
-
A founding member of the alliance, Zin lies between the planets of Helena and Bontorum on the outskirts of the human named “Milkyway Galaxy”. It has three visible suns providing light to the planet, although one is still its ‘primary’.
When founding the system, it was lush with temperate forests and a mild climate. Zin is a victim of pollution, having lost many sentient and non-sentient members to smoke and chemical poisoning. It is currently undergoing lawful restrictions on mining, the only beneficial export to the other planets. It houses mines of many metals and minerals, exporting to other planets for architecture, art, and other uses.
The sentient species of Zin are known as Alpha and Beta. The only recognized alliance planet with two separate sentient species, its members have a difficult history of co-existing.
Zin Alpha’s are tall and wide, nearly 2.5 meters at full-grown height. Their deep red skin varies little between individuals, and they sport two horns on their heads and two on their jawlines. Males have no hair, while the females have a small shock of dark colored hair that varies from individual to individual. Naturally strong and resilient, Alphas regularly run most organizations and political seats within the planet.
Zin Beta’s are smaller, near 2 meters in height, and naturally leaner. Their pink-hued skin is paired with blue to green eyes and jet-black hair. Males and females are of similar build, other than reproductive organs.
Their current political leader is Malachi. He has been enacting laws for some time, all of which have done nothing to help his growing lack of popularity.
Lifespans of the Zin are the same, measuring the near “human” average of 80 Earth years.
-
The planet Sarvum is the second of four founding planets, located near the central ring of the Galaxy.
Sarvum has less recorded history, starting only some five hundred years ago. For all of recorded history, it has been a planet of few resources. Its water sources are largely contaminated with a toxin that was transformed into liquid power sources, powering batteries that allow for wormhole-harnessing travel systems and doorway construction between planets. Due to the lack of natural resources, many rumors have spread about how the people survived long enough to get into the alliance with the other founding planets, but no reliable information has been received.
The Sarvum are the only sentient species on the planet. Tall in natural build, they are hailed as dangerous by most outsiders. Their pale grey skin, paired with excess black body hair, gives them a near animalistic look, despite having similar body proportions to the average human creature. They have a forward jutting jaw and finger and toe nails which protrude into claws. They are known as having a dangerous power, which was made illegal by other planets.
Due to their checkered past, including the Genu war and mass genocide a century ago, the Sarvum have been under forced guard for the past century.
Their current leader, Selena, has been in this position since shortly after their former leader was removed for his crimes against the Genu.
The Sarvum people don’t have a natural life span. Their bodies stop aging at 25 Earth years. However, due to low birth rates and failing immune systems, the average lifespan remains near 150 Earth years with a population that is slowly declining.

Fiercely independent, Helena is within the further reaches of the Galaxy. They were not a founding member of the alliance, joining due to conflicting reports of potential famine or outside threats.
Helena is a lush planet filled with humid jungles and a diverse ecosystem. The planet is a high exporter of food, water, and medicines. The planet has two primary continents, with nearly all sentient life living on Continenta Prima.
The Helenic people are of average height and build, about 1.75-2m tall, similar to that of humans. They have more discrepancy between males and females of the species. They vary between colors of green to blue skin, sporting thick, wavy hair which could be described as similar to seaweed. They have more individuality in appearance than other species within the alliance. The Helenic culture supports many various religions, faithful to more ancient beliefs. Although impressive with natural resources, their technological development has always been behind that of most others within the system.
The Helenic people are led by Jentic Lash. He has been in power for only five years. The political system of the people remains largely unproblematic.
Helenic people have similar lifespans to that of humans, living between 70 and 90 Earth years.

Merik is a small planet triangulated between Earth and Sarvum. They were inducted into the alliance when a foreign aggressive planet invaded, requiring assistance to survive as a species.
Merik is forested and humid, with clean skies and plains that distinguish this planet from the others. The planet supplies fresh water stores and animal products, including many items needed for clothing. What they lack in military strength, they make up for in hospitality. Merik is known as the most hospitable and tourist-friendly planet within the alliance.
The Merik people are of shorter and smaller build, averaging near 1.5 meters tall. Their silvery skin was once regarded as magical, but in recent history, the “magic” beliefs have all but faded from their culture. They have silvery hair and once had tails, which were cropped due to assumed pressure from other reigning planets to fit in more.
The leader of Merik is a woman by the name of Samana. She has been in office for 10 years. She prides herself on tourism growth within the decade and improved social standings.
Merik have shorter lifespans, living to near 50 Earth years. They age outwardly quickly, often looking ‘elderly’, which is also partially due to the silver complexion and hair.
-
The planet Parvish is an early member of the alliance located nearest to Sarvum. They were the fourth founding planet, technically leading the start with their ships traveling between them (although it took years without the use of Sarvum batteries).
Parvish is a planet that focuses on its military strength as its primary export. It houses some of the most advanced weaponry and transportation within the alliance, and uses its members as exports. The planet is mostly industrialized, with large cities spanning most of the solid land. They rely on exports of food and water since an early famine, and then over-expansion decimated their fields and crops. The Parvish people have been in charge of mandatory guard for the planet and people of Sarvum for the past century.
The people of Parvish are scaled, green in nature, with tall and thickly built frames of 2.5 meters or more. The people are born of eggs, not having traditional family/relationships as other species within the alliance have. They have clawed hands and are more resilient to injury. Many outside species refer to them as ‘lizard-like,’ but it is seen as an insult to the Parvish people, as they are highly intelligent. They are known to have multiple speech impediments, the most common of which is delayed processing.
The Parvish are led by leader Kirrim, recently elected into office. He is young for his species, nearing his fifties. The Parvish have longer lifespans, ranging from 200+ years due to slower aging processes.
-
The planet Bontorum is the most recent addition to the alliance, having only been in the alliance for 150 years. They are located on the outermost reaches of the galaxy, nearest to Zin.
Bontorum is an industrial hub, sporting the highest levels of technological advancements. Much like Parvish, they overindustrialized and required outside sourcing for food and water once their own supply dissipated. They brought high levels of industrial advancement and banking system organization, with increased fluidity of interplanetary trade and commerce. Bontorum, in turn, took over as head of the interplanetary alliance, holding the office for almost the past century.
The people of Bontorum have different proportions from the others. They have four arms, a trunk for a nose, and orange skin. Their bone density is lower, and their joints are fully covered with thick protective padding, giving the appearance of having no joints at all. They have no visible difference between genders, and the process of reproduction is different as well.
The Bontorum are led by Jocin, who has been head of the interplanetary council for over two decades. He is the spokesman for all potential changes within the alliance. The Bontorum have similar lifespans to that of humans, ranging from 70 to 80 Earth years.

The planet Genicola was formerly located between Sarvum and Zin, before complete destruction wiped it from existence. It was the final founding member of the alliance.
Most of the data has been wiped, it appears that the history and people are meant to be lost to the past. All that is known is that the people were said to have abilities, but of what is unknown. They were decimated in the Genu war a century ago, led by the war-time general and leader of Sarvum, Karrosh.
The people of Genicola were known as the Genu.
